Dialectics, Vol. 4: Iterated Dialectics and the Dialectical Ratchet
Epizode
New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 192 Recently on the New Discourses Bullets podcast, host James Lindsay laid out the three classical dialectics of both Hegel and Marx, which laid the foundation for Lenin and eventually Woke thought. In this fourth episode exploring dialectics more directly, he adds an important dimension to the dialectical approach: it is not, as some say, a "one-time good deal." Dialectical manipulations are meant to be iterated. That is, you don't transform a target with them just once but instead apply them over and over again, ratcheting the situation toward a desired goal or state of affairs. In this episode of the podcast, Lindsay explains the iterative intention of the dialectical approach. You don't want to miss it. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 227 The way the Nazis regarded themselves and their ideology is a fascinating story of differentiation and elevation, a kind of therapeutic balm for a humiliated national psyche. Nowhere is this ideological foundation more thoroughly elaborated upon than in Alfred Rosenberg's Myth of the Twentieth Century, published in 1930. It was set to the task of laying out the underlying "myth of the blood" upon which Nazi thought was at least partially based. Here on the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay has been taking listeners through portions of this strange book in this Myth of the Blood series, which is derivative to his longer Nazi Experiment podcast series. In this episode, he takes the listener through the end of the third chapter of Rosenberg's bizarre tome to illustrate how the Nazis distinguished themselves not just racially but ideologically from the Chinese, Indians, and Jews while explaining the "Luciferian" (his term) nature of the Nazi project. Join him for another eye-opening exploration of Nazi thought. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 191 Woke thinking runs on a dialectical engine, which it inherits not just from Lenin and Marx but also from Hegel. The usual formulation for dialectical theory in Communism presents three dialectics, and the third of these is the most mysterious. It is called "the Negation of the Negation." By connecting it to Communist theory and strategy, Mao's "unity, criticism, unity" formula, and the infamous "problem, reaction, solution" dialectic, host James Lindsay brings this seemingly abstruse idea to life in this new episode of New Discourses Bullets. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 190 The only way to understand Woke thinking is to understand its dialectical foundations, which run all the way back not only to Lenin and Marx but even to Hegel. There are three classical dialectical programs, at least in Communism, and the second of these is "the Struggle and Unification of Opposites." In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay takes you through this second dialectical form and how you'll meet it today in Woke behavior and thought. It is the second of a three-part series tackling these three dialectical forms. Join him to learn all about the manipulation. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 189 There's no understanding Woke without understanding its dialectical engine, which traces back through the Critical Theorists back through Lenin and Marx and even Hegel. Classically, there are three dialectical theories put forth and made explicit use of in Communist and Woke thinking. The first of these three is "Quantity transforms into quality, then quality transforms into quality." In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay walks through this dialectical form and connects it to the Woke you deal with today. This episode is the first in a three-part series dealing with the three operational dialectics. Join him to understand how they think. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 226 Popularity of socialism is rapidly on the rise, especially among American youth, but what is it? What is its relationship to Communism? What about Marxism? Why is it so popular even though it never works? Is Woke really related to socialism? These questions demand answers our schools and TikToks aren't giving, so in this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay runs through them. He explains the differences and relationships between socialism, Communism, and Marxism, explains how it's both an economic theory and a social theory that operates on faith, and how that faith works. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 188 Karl Marx turned an economic idea called the labor theory of value into a theory of resentment and exploitation. The thing is, it's not just that Marx was wrong for adopting the labor theory of value; it's that the labor theory of value itself is also fundamentally wrong. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, aimed especially at younger listeners, host James Lindsay spells out the failures of both the labor theory of value in general and of Marx's theory of labor resentment on top of it. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 187 On both Left and Right, our young people are turning against the concept of interest, like money making money for being loaned out. This is an emergency, frankly. Not only does interest make total and absolute sense when you understand what it pays for, it is also an economic and moral good in society. Given current trends, it seems imperative to share the real foundations of monetary interest and how it produces moral and economic goods we should be happy about. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay goes through the basic economics and makes the case. Like most of his economically oriented podcasts, this one was recorded and shared particularly with younger listeners in mind, so join him and share the message with those people who need it most. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 186 There's a fundamental difference between mere power and legitimate authority, and that difference needs to be dragged into the center of our political discussions against Woke. Power is the raw capacity to do something, but authority is something more. It's power, which is to say capacity and permission, combined with right, which is justification. Woke movements covet power. They have no genuine authority. In that gap all the difference that matters hides. Our forefathers in the American Founding era understood this and called power without authority "arbitrary power," which they found slavish and absurd, and believed to be their sacred duty as men to resist. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay does a kind of "book club" reading from Timothy Sandefur's new book Proclaiming Liberty: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and the Declaration of Independence (https://link.amazon/B079Yg99D), to draw out this distinction and make it clear and relevant. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 185 Woke beliefs, including in the potential success of socialism, antiracism, etc., are held on faith. That faith is just like the faith discussed in Hebrews 11 except bogus, a false hope in something they believe is assured but unseen and a confidence in its eventual emergence. This core faith tells us a few important things about Woke, including the idea that the fulfillment of their beliefs lies in the future, not the past or present, and also that the reason they must wait for that fulfillment is primarily the hindrances and opposition of their political enemies. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay breaks this down and offers some suggestions for how to engage in light of this proper understanding of Woke thinking. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 184 Why does every totalitarian system enact so many and such brutal purges, even genocides, of its enemies? The reason is the logic of the systems themselves, which guarantee it. That logic proceeds on the idea that if the system is failing, it's because people who oppose or sabotage it must still be out in the world and must be stopped or destroyed. In this chilling episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay dives into the essential logic of the totalitarian mindset and makes this terrifying fact clear. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 225 We all know by now that Woke presents an inverted world and then traps people into it. The Woke mind struggles to tell true from false, right from wrong, good from evil, and real from fake. The way this inversion works programmatically is interesting, though, tying together many threads of discussion about woke over the last few years in a neat package. In this valuable episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay turns to the three elements of classical rhetoric, Logos, Ethos, and Pathos, to reveal what Woke is and how it works in a whole new profound way. In short, it inverts logic and ethics and keeps emotions pathological as the glue that holds the whole thing together. If you are against Woke, you won't want to miss this explanation. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 183 The price of a Woke society is having a low-trust society. There's a reason for this, and it's not just that Woke is fundamentally a scam (and its programs are frauds). The reason is because Woke is intrinsically subversive in more than one sense, and it advances its agenda by exploiting the societal resource of trust. This fact is made undeniably clear in the 1987 paper "Doing Gender" (https://newdiscourses.com/2026/10/gender-ideology-transgenderism-doing-gender/) by Candace West and Don H. Zimmerman, the most cited gender studies paper ever, with over 25,000 citations at present. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay extracts that point from the essay to make it extremely clear and then points out many more examples of how Woke ideology advances itself by trading against societal trust, which then undermines that trust. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 224 To view the issue optimistically, the medical front of the battle against gender ideology and transgender medicine is starting to go very well and might soon see more significant victories. The ideological and social side, including the damaging practice known as "social transition," has barely been impacted at all. To dig further into the roots of this phenomenon of "gender ideology with transgender characteristics," host James Lindsay takes the listener through a frequently overlooked landmark paper in gender studies in this episode of the New Discourses Podcast. After framing the issue in a helpful way, he reads the bulk of Candace West and Don H. Zimmerman's 1987 paper "Doing Gender" (pdf: https://www.gla.ac.uk/0t4/crcees/files/summerschool/readings/WestZimmerman_1987_DoingGender.pdf ), arguably the most cited paper in gender studies, offering deep explanation. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 223 Should housewives be paid by the state to be housewives? In some sense, it's an issue that's in present-day news, but this isn't the first time a political movement has broached the question. Back in the 1970s, it became a major issue among Marxist-feminists, believe it or not. The Marxist-feminists of the age believed that if the state paid wages for housework, as the movement came to be known, then women would realize the laborious nature and labor-relations relevant to their station within capitalism and thus awaken to resist it. In fact, Silvia Federici launched this movement into prominence with a 1975 pamphlet called "Wages Against Housework" (pdf: https://monoskop.org/images/2/23/Federici_Silvia_Wages_Against_Housework_1975.pdf ) and argues that paying women for housework is the first step in their class consciousness and refusal, thus a necessary piece of the revolutionary movement. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 182 Before the geocentric model of the universe fell and was replaced by the heliocentric model of the solar system, the movement of the planets across the night sky couldn't be explained neatly by assuming simple circular orbits that all go around the Earth. The invention used to "correct" the model had the name "epicycles." The idea was that the planets went around in little circles on their big circular orbits around the Earth, thereby allegedly explaining the phenomenon of retrograde motion using an early, and wrong, model of celestial mechanics. This attempted patch of a bad theory tells us something about conspiracy theories: when the evidence starts going against them, they have to generate epicycles to keep themselves going. This is a way we can know a conspiracy theory for what it is, in fact, at least sometimes. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay explains epicycles and how we can learn to spot them to figure out which kinds of conspiracy theories (and cult ideologies) are likely to be false. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 181 Surely you have noticed a couple of things about Woke. First, it acts like mental illness. Second, it actually valorizes mental illness for real. These outcomes are the logical consequence of having adopted the views of the postmodernist Michel Foucault, particularly his early work in Madness and Civilization (1961). Among the consequences to this civilizational catastrophe, besides the obvious, including the transgender ideological craze, is the completely destruction of anything like a "reasonable person" standard by which to judge things we see happening in the world. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 180 Did you know the explanation for the Communist side of the Red-Green Alliance, including "Queers for Palestine," can be found on the last page of the Communist Manifesto (pdf), written in 1848 by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels? The explanation is simple and brief, "In short, the Communists everywhere support every revolutionary movement against the existing social and political order of things." Communists of all kinds are instructed to side with anyone fighting their common enemy, which is the status quo, or the present society. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay explains the relevance of this sentence, and the one that follows, to our contemporary issues, including intersectionality, the Red-Green Alliance, and Palestinianism (or the "Palestinian Cause"). The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 222 If we really peel back so much of the ranting and the drama around the Nazi Experiment, what are we left with? Well, the point, to be frank. In this episode of the Nazi Experiment series on the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay takes you into that point, which Adolf Hitler himself makes clear in a remarkably short chapter of his 1928 "Secret Book," which went unpublished throughout his lifetime. Meant to be something like a third volume to Mein Kampf focused on Nazi foreign policy, this short book barely saw the light of day. Here, we will learn what Hitler means when he declares himself a nationalist, a socialist, and a national socialist, and we will understand with horror his clear-eyed self-awareness that the whole future of his movement lay in the youth pulled from the children of the establishment national bourgeoisie. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 179 Woke can be summarized in a single, short way. Woke means thinking with critical theory and acting like a Leninist. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 221 However weird you thought the Nazis were before, they're weirder than that. In fact, they were outright mystics, and the point of the Positive Christianity movement given in Point 24 of the Nazi Party platform can only be summarized as to take German Christians of all stripes, deconstruct their Christian faiths, and move them into this counterfeit mysticism and the Nazi "Myth of the Blood." Hitler's chief ideologist, Alfred Rosenberg, makes that case powerfully and undeniably in the third chapter of his very strange book, The Myth of the Twentieth Century (https://ia800405.us.archive.org/31/items/alfred-rosenberg-and-the-track-of-the-jew-through-the-ages/The%20Myth%20of%20the%2020th%20Century.pdf). The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 220 In 1765, Great Britain had foolishly decided to continue escalating its attempts to recover the cost of the French and Indian War from its American Colonists by passing the infamous and odious Stamp Act upon the colonies, who famously were not represented in the Parliament that would tax them. In response, a great deal of pre-Revolutionary mayhem and energy was unleashed on this side of the Pond, and within that current came one of the most brilliant and under-recognized essays (https://www.fredbischoff.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Adams-Canon-Feudal.pdf) of the nascent American era, penned under pseudonym by the incredible John Adams. "A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law," as it was called, was a hammerstroke against the twin tyrannies of an overbearing church and state, and worse yet, their confederacy. It was also a call to learning and to memory for the colonists about who they are, who they were, and why they and their forefathers came: not just for religion, but for religious liberty and a hatred of these wicked tyrannies all across Europe. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 178 Critical Theory originates in the formal sense from a 1937 essay penned by Frankfurt School director Max Horkheimer, bearing the title "Traditional and Critical Theory." In that essay, Horkheimer compares what he calls "traditional theory" against his neo-Marxist conception that he names "critical theory," thus organizing the approach behind the entire school of thought that is sometimes called Critical Marxism. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 219 The United States of America was founded on a very particular view of the people's right relationship to government authority that can be, and was, summarized by the famous phrase, "Resistance against tyrants is obedience to God." But, many have wondered, even in our present day, what about the injunctions of Paul's famous Romans 13, which demands we obey our civil authorities, for they are ordained by God for our good through that role? This crucial question loomed very large through the Covid-19 abuses and has ever since, including in the American churches. The definitively American answer to the question was given as a sermon (https://lc.org/PDFs/A%20Discourse%20Concerning%20Unlimited%20Submission%20and%20Non-Resistance%20to%20the%20Higher%20Powers%20-%20Jonathan%20Mayhew%20-%201750.pdf) in Massachusetts Colony in 1750, however, by a fiery young Congregationalist named Jonathan Mayhew, and this sermon laid bedrock under what would become the United States. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 177 In 1969, Max Horkheimer gave an interview in which he was called to account for his development of the Critical Theory and its application through the Frankfurt School, which he had directed for decades. In that essay, he offers a straightforward explanation for why he formulated the Critical Theory and what it is for, saying it allows criticism of a system that is so comprehensive that it prevents even imagining a better alternative on its terms. This little segment of Horkheimer's thought allows us to dissect the Critical Theory and clearly understand its anatomy and consequences, and in this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay does exactly that. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 218 The school of thought known as Critical Theory was born, as we understand it today, in an essay written in 1937 by Max Horkheimer, who was director of the infamous Frankfurt School. This definitive essay of Western Marxism makes it clear that what we think of as "theory" is only one side of the story, and it's the side that keeps reproducing our present society. Horkheimer calls this "traditional theory," and we call it "knowing what you're talking about and applying it to make the world a better place." He contrasts it against his own approach to Western Marxist thinking, which he calls "critical theory," which questions the very foundations of the society we inhabit in favor of an alternative we can't even articulate. In this important episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay brings you through some of the text of the first half of this historical essay so you can understand the Critical Theory from its birth, in the words of its own founder. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 217 A very relatable feeling today is that of having something incredibly important to say while nobody listens. We go on screaming about the nearly existential horror of the situation we are in while everyday life goes on beside us, ignoring us, denying us. It's incredibly frustrating. This now far-too-familiar circumstance was written about eloquently at a time when it mattered as much as it may ever have mattered, in January 1944. In that month, Arthur Koestler, writing in the New York Times, published a monumental essay titled, "The Nightmare that Is Reality," (https://www.nytimes.com/1944/01/09/archives/the-nightmare-that-is-a-reality-the-grim-stories-of-nazi-atrocities.html) describing the madness of screaming the truth about the unfolding Holocaust in Germany. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay shares Koestler's landmark essay with you in full and then explores the unsettling question it raises: with so many "screamers," which ones, like Koestler, are crucially right, and which ones are cranks and fools, if not worse? New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 175 Welfare mentality is believing that you should be given things you haven't earned because you simply deserve them, whatever the excuse. Maybe it's entitlement; maybe you believe it's a "human right." It doesn't matter. It is to be contrasted with a mindset that understands, recognizes, and honors the dignity of work, of production and the fair trade of parties seeking to mutually increase their own held value by exchanging something they have for something they deem more worth having. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay presents a compelling X post (https://x.com/i/status/2078424564753682763 ) that introduces the term "welfare mentality" and peels back the dignified reality of free enterprise versus the dehumanization of socialism. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 216 In the late 1970s, a Palestinian-American postcolonial theorist and Columbia University literature professor named Edward Said wrote a book that changed the Left forever. That book was called Orientalism (https://amzn.to/45eMnE2). In this book, he brought the postmodernist deconstructive tools of Michel Foucault to a variety of Marxist and Critical Theory analyses to criticize and transform the way scholars study "other" cultures. His basic thesis is that there is no way for a scholar embedded in an imperialist context to study another culture without bringing his imperialism (and preference for its benefits) into the analysis. Exploring his treatment offers us much today in terms of understanding Woke, including how it could be that so many of our central institutions caved in to the ideology. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay reads a section from Said's own introduction to Orientalism to explain. The Postmodernist, Critical Marxist, and broadly establishment-liberal mondialist projects share so much foundational overlap that they serve as not just parallel projects but an intellectual-cultural symbiosis that opened the door to the Woke takeover. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 174 The Democratic Socialists of America are making a bid to take over the Democratic Party, echoing the grim historical chapter during which Lenin's Bolsheviks abolished the more moderate Mensheviks from the future of Russian politics. They, like their historical predecessors, from whom they take inspiration, are Communists, and they have a party platform. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay reads quickly through the entire DSA party platform (https://program.dsausa.org/) so that people can hear for themselves just how crazy it is. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 215 The Nazis had an ideological mission for their own Volk in addition to those we're all more familiar with from the dark stories of history: to transform a widely Christian Germany into a fully Nazi Germany, not just in practice and politics but in belief and commitment. That is, in the language of the Nazis, German Christians, both Catholic and Protestant, had to be transformed into people who accepted the racialist worldview and Fascist organizational principles of National Socialism. In practice, that would mean devastating the real foundations for their faiths, providing them an ersatz intermediate faith called "Positive Christianity," and using it to lead them to full-blown Nazism. The key man tasked with this endeavor was Alfred Rosenberg, the Chief Ideologist of the Third Reich, who wrote the book on it in 1930. The Myth of the Twentieth Century was arguably the Third Reich's second most important book after Mein Kampf, and it presents the "myth of the blood" that all Nazis were eventually to come to believe as an article of unshakeable faith like their leaders. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay returns to the second chapter of The Myth of the Twentieth Century to outline Rosenberg's very New-Atheist-ish effort to undermine the foundations of German Christianity while retaining a mythological Aryan Jesus so that he could complete this task. So, what is Critical Theory, where does it come from, how does it work, and how can we possibly understand it? In this helpful episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay brings his considerable experience in studying and communicating the nature of Critical Theory to audiences around the world to you, dear listener, to explain it in a simple, easy-to-grasp way that will leave you clearer than ever on this menace to our society and what to do about it. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 214 The Democratic Party is in trouble. Many of us have known that for a long time, but only a few Democrats have. This is the moment where that needs to change. Through internal declarations of their own, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which is for all intents and purposes a Marxist-Leninist Communist organization, isn't just winning primary elections on the Democratic ticket; they are also intending to take over the Democratic Party (and teachers unions) writ large. This is in every respect an emergency situation for Democrats and for America herself. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay reads through the entire DSA platform (https://program.dsausa.org/) and its introduction so that people can see it is exactly what so many fear it is: a Communist party with a Marxist-Leninist agenda. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 172 Why are the various Islamic states around Israel so frequently hostile to it? Why are so many Muslims so antisemitic? Why is Islam itself coded with antisemitism? These are all answerable questions, and to the average Westerner, the answer is hard to fully understand. Thankfully, there are an increasing number of accessible resources making the issue clear. One example is Danny Burmawi's (https://x.com/DanBurmawy) new book Islam, Israel, and the West: A Former Muslim's Analysis (https://amzn.to/4y7rgAQ), which New Discourses recommends to address these kinds of questions for people. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay dives into a short section of Barmawi's book to highlight a crucial point: there are only two sides here, with Israel or against Israel, and to side with Israel is to side with Western Civilization and its moral legitimacy and against it is to be against Western Civilization and its moral legitimacy. It is ultimately that simple. Join him for the discussion and to make your choice. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 171 A heated and important discussion rages about the two parallel terms "Islam" and "Islamism." Are they the same? Is there some difference? Is that difference, if it exists at all, a distinction without any real difference? Different people have different, and strong, opinions on this matter. To look into it in this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay does something he's famous for doing: turning to an original source. In this case, the source is Sayyid Qutb's 1964 book Milestones, a radical Jihadist Salafist book that reinvigorated and reinspired the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, then beyond. He reads a short segment here from Milestones (https://amzn.to/4vQZNC7) that makes clear that at least for Qutb's style of Salafist Islam, "Islam" as the religion and "Islamism" as "the movement" to implement that religion are intrinsically connected in the same way as theory and praxis are wedded in Communism. Join him to understand that while there is a conceptual difference between the religion and the "correct" movement to implement the religion, they are in fact at the end of the day fundamentally inseparable. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 170 Woke is coming back, but not the crude Identity Marxism (Intersectionality) of the 2010s and first years of the 2020s. A new Woke, a "Woke 2.0," is arising. It's focuses will be largely a return to old-school Marxist standbys like class theory, materialism, and "anti-imperialism" in its new postcolonial form. Hating, not just opposing, Israel is a hallmark of this Woke 2.0 evolution, as is being "anti-corruption," which we can be sure will be selectively applied. Woke 2.0, though, is the long-anticipated (or dreaded) "materialist turn" we have been predicting since at least 2022, and it is now here. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 213 In the 1960s, a radical Islamic Salafist named Sayyid Qutb wrote a short little radical book called Milestones (https://amzn.to/4bn9hMX) in which he laid out a new vision for what the world usually calls "Islamism" today. That model wasn't just rooted in a backwards-looking radical fundamentalist vision of Islam called Jihadist Salafism as taken up by the Muslim Brotherhood; it was also based directly on Vladimir Lenin's radical model for creating and installing Communism through Bolshevism, particularly Lenin's 1902 booklet called What Is To Be Done? (https://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1901/witbd/) The prescription is for an ideologically pure radical vanguard to take control and pull the ideology into global dominance, even against its own moderates. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay continues his reading of Milestones in a fourth volume, outlining the nature of this vanguard approach as Qutb explains it in his third chapter and tying it definitively to other radical ideological movements, especially Lenin's Communism. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 169 What are the foundations of "the West" as we understand it today? Many of us land on a hyphenated term that finds itself under attack in the world today: our foundations are Judeo-Christian. But then, we also must admit the relevance of the seismic shifts in thought and political organization of the various movements we retroactively recognize as "the" Enlightenment (really: the various Enlightenments). That much is undeniable. The correct expression of these currents, which incorporated into a Christian ethic a great deal of "Enlightenment" thinking and also a revitalization of much Judaic thinking, arose on the American continent more or less uniquely. Thus, "the West" and the "Western Civilization" that we defend today is not just Judeo-Christian or "Enlightenment" but specifically Judeo-Christian-American. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 212 The entire world is turning today around the "Palestinian" Cause, but what is it? It is a fabrication. It is a manipulation. It is a forgery. It is a psyop. This fact, and the many facts it is based upon, is plainly and beautifully articulated in Danny Burmawi's (https://x.com/DanBurmawy ) new book Islam, Israel, and the West: A Former Muslim's Analysis (https://amzn.to/4y7rgAQ), which New Discourses recommends, especially for beginners to the subject. Burmawi himself is a Christian ex-Muslim who originally hails from Jordan, lived many years as a Christian in Lebanon, and has since moved to the United States where he has established the Ideological Defense Institute (https://idicenter.org/) (IDI) (https://x.com/idicenter). New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 168 We're seeing a lot from the Right about a return to tradition... or is it to "Tradition"? As it turns out, there's yet another example of a twisted esoteric philosophy out there that uses a term we're all familiar with in a specific way most of us don't even know about. That school of thought is called "Traditionalism" and has a very peculiar, esoteric (Gnostic) understanding of the concept of a capital-T "Tradition" that's like New Age turned inside-out and upside-down. Like almost all such things, it is a kind of ideological parasite that lures people into something bad through something that seems to be something good, even necessary. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 167 Most of us, if you are a fan of New Discourses, at least, are opposed to "globalism," but we have a rather thin understanding of what it represents. That's because we're lacking the correct vocabulary, as usual. In this case, the word we need is "mondialism," which is a kind of one-world philosophy. The trouble is, our opposition to mondialism runs in parallel to other less savory forms of opposition to mondialism, such as we see from the New Axis, particularly Russia and the multipolarist agenda, though in the opposite direction. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay introduces you to the term "mondialism" and explains what it is and how it fits into the complicated conflicts we see all over the world. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 211 Hitler didn't like parliaments. Indeed, much of his political formulation was based on his absolute hatred for them. Interestingly, his critiques of parliamentary bodies in Mein Kampf is largely correct, if a bit polemical. This introduces an interesting situation where Hitler is correct on a narrow but important point and then proposes the wrong kind of solution to it, in this case a dictatorial tyranny. Such a situation can be particularly seductive for someone who doesn't realize better alternatives exist. When confronted with a genuine problem correctly articulated and a proffered solution, that solution looks very attractive even when it's wretched. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay continues the Nazi Experiment series in a sixteenth volume by exploring Hitler's critique of parliaments and uses it to paint a stark contrast between the American Experiment and the Nazi Experiment. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 166 Here in the West, we talk a lot about Islam and Sharia as though they're separate things. They are not separate things. Islam means submission. Submission is expressed through the Divine Law called Sharia. Therefore, Islam means submission to God through keeping Sharia. According to Sayyid Qutb in his 1964 book Milestones (https://amzn.to/4xviKeR), "This is Islam. There is no other meaning of Islam." Since Qutb is widely regarded as the intellectual foundation for the current Muslim Brotherhood, we should perhaps take this view seriously. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 210 Moral clarity on the Ukraine War has been difficult for many Republicans. There are reasons for that, some good, some less good. For one thing, the Democrats in the name of what seems to be some bizarre globalist agenda, which is the precise thing many Republicans reject, went all in on Ukraine, demanding more and more support. For another, this triggered an isolationist streak in the American Right that was inflamed by deliberate Russian propaganda to get Republicans to pull back or even to support Russia or Putin himself. In this state of confusion, the truth is often that there are not two conflicting sides but at least three. Here, there are three conflicting philosophies of global organization competing, and the American Right is slow to figure this out. In this important episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay uses as Russian source, Aleksandr Dugin's The Foundations of Geopolitics (1997) (https://amzn.to/4eEmXnG) to make these three competing philosophies clear. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 165 The propaganda we face in the twenty-first century has a new and different character that we must rapidly make ourselves aware of. It's interactive. That is, rather than just feeding you agitation or propaganda in order to engage you, the propaganda methods of the social-media age influence you by giving you contoured feedback on what you post: likes, reposts, shares, criticism, ratios, and all of that. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay takes us back into Sayyid Qutb's 1964 book Milestones (https://amzn.to/4xviKeR), which is considered something of an intellectual underpinning for the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam ever since. He raises an important question about how seriously we should take Qutb and points out the problem that tens, if not hundreds, of millions of people already do. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 208 In 1930, Adolf Hitler's chief ideologist for the Third Reich, Alfred Rosenberg, sought to write a new mythology for the twentieth century that was meant to be the foundational belief system for Nazis. The book he published was the second most important and popular book in the Third Reich, and it's called The Myth of the Twentieth Century (https://ia800405.us.archive.org/31/items/alfred-rosenberg-and-the-track-of-the-jew-through-the-ages/The%20Myth%20of%20the%2020th%20Century.pdf ). In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay continues his "Myth of the Blood" series exploring this book, now turning to Rosenberg's second chapter: "Love and Honor." Here, Rosenberg outlines why the Nordic Aryan (German) mentality is based on racial values of honor and duty as compared to Christian, Jewish, Russian, and Freemasonic values all rooted in love in one form of another, which makes them the ruin of civilizations. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 163 As antisemitic and anti-Jewish propaganda rises across the West (largely catering to recent imported audiences), we're forced to confront its most egregious and damaging source, a 1903 book compiled by the Russian Tsar's Secret Police (Ohkrana) called The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. This fabrication was a bit of darkest black propaganda organized by the Russian Empire's tyrannical leadership between 1899 and 1903. Its purpose was to help the regime consolidate its power by alleging a dark conspiracy of Jews headed by the fictitious group called the Learned Elders of Zion. The book is a complete fabrication, a completely exposed forgery, but its damage has been relentless for over a century.
